K'vod Habriot Action AlertSince 2006, hundreds of rabbis and thousands of Jews have signed the Jewish Statement Against Torture and the Rabbinic Letter Against Torture, and joined K'vod Habriot: A Jewish Human Rights Network. Now it is time to say thank you. We will be sending President Obama a letter next week. Read a draft of the letter. We will include all the names of people who signed the initial Statement or are members of K'vod Habriot.

If you did not sign the Statement and are not a member of K'vod Habriot, please join by 3PM on Monday to be included on the letter (Email us to check your status. Please include a correct mailing address).  Join now.

Rabbis, Please check if your name is on the list by clicking hereEmail us by Monday at 3PM if you are not on the list and would like to be included, or to correct errors in your listing (please include a correct mailing address).

We hope to include as many people as possible, so please forward this email to any friends you think would want to be included. If you would not like your name on the letter, please let us know. Once we have a complete list, we will request a meeting with a member of the Obama Administration.

On January 22, President Barack Obama began the process of restoring America's moral standing by signing an Executive Order on Ensuring Lawful Interrogations. We applaud this important step forward, and pledge ourselves to work alongside the President to enshrine the provisions of the Executive Order into permanent law.

Watch video of the signing and read a press release from RHR-NA.

There is much work that lies ahead. Those who authorized acts of torture must be held accountable for their deeds. There must be a nonpartisan, independent commission with subpoena power to investigate fully the extent of what our government did since 9/11 with respect to the use of torture and the inhumane treatment of detainees. Read an article by George Hunsinger, a founder of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, on what lies ahead.

Resources from NRCAT

NRCAT is calling on faith communities to celebrate the Executive Order this weekend in their services, and in the weeks to come. We invite you to use their resources, include an interfaith prayer appropriate for Shabbat services. Please share your plans for your community.
