Guantanamo Anniversary, 1/11/08
Information on January 11 Events in Washington D.C. and in New York
The New York event will take place in Foley Square (corner of Pearl & Centre Streets) in Manhattan, starting at 12:30 p.m. The vigil is being organized by the Metro New York Religious Campaign Against Torture and is being co-sponsored by the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT). Speakers will include Rabbi Michael Feinberg of Rabbis for Human Rights-North America.
The second event will take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., starting at 11:00 a.m. at 12th Street (across the street from the Smithsonian Metro Stop). Speakers will include Rabbi Gerry Serotta, Chair of RHR-NA, and Rev. Richard Killmer, Executive Director of NRCAT. The demonstration will be followed at noon by a "March of Prisoners" to the Supreme Court building and conclude at 1:30 p.m. with a funeral ceremony at the Supreme Court in memory of the four men who died in custody at Guantanamo as well as the "death" of Habeas Corpus. The event is being co-sponsored by NRCAT and Amnesty International.
