Take Action
We STILL Need a Full Investigation of U.S.-Sponsored Torture:
We would like to say that as Americans, our moral values prevent the use of torture. Indeed, our founding father George Washington was known for preventing the torture of British troups in American custody. He understood that torture would damage the moral standing of his fledgling nation and harm the souls of both perpetrater and victim.
But since 9/11, American use of torture in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world has harmed our national soul. We, who should be at the forefront of promoting ideals and democracy and peace, have denied the human dignity of others. While official American policy on interrogations has changed since the beginning of the Obama Administration, there is much we do not know about the American use of torture. Until we know what happened--and hold those who redefined American law to permit the use of torture accountable--we are destined to torture again.
It is now more essential than ever that we have a full investigation of American interrogation methods since 9/11. There must be accountability. It is shocking that the architects of torture continue to publicly promote their methods (especially in light of the capture and death of Osama Bin Laden) without any reprocussion for their actions.
