Rabbis for Human Rights North America invites all Jews interested in human rights to affirm the image of God in every person by joining K’vod Habriot: A Jewish Human Rights Network, launching now in honor of Chanukah and International Human Rights Day (December 10th).

K'vod Habriot is a dynamic network of rabbis, communities and individuals dedicated to the human rights of all. Synagogues and individuals who join pledge to advocate on behalf of human rights, educate themselves on the core values and links between Judaism and human rights, celebrate International Human Rights Day as a a critical date for the Jewish community, and Integrate human rights concerns into Jewish rituals and holidays.

It is our hope that this network will ensure that human rights become a key commitment of the Jewish community. This pledge includes the RHR-NA statement of principles, affirming the values of doing what is just and right, seeing the image of God in every person, and promoting a society that protects its most vulnerable members.

For communities that are part of K'vod Habriot, RHR-NA will provide regular action alerts on pressing issues, educational and liturgical material appropriate for a variety of settings, and support for local programming and advocacy. Participation in the network will create opportunities for partnership with other like-minded Jewish communities and in local and national interfaith efforts.

K'vod Habriot is the next major step in extending RHR-NA's reach beyond just rabbis, reaching all Jews engaged in social justice and human rights work. Our initial campaign continues our advocacy efforts to stop U.S.-sponsored torture of detainees overseas, end the CIA practice of extraordinary rendition, and repeal the 2006 Military Commissions Act. Serving as the Jewish voice within the larger, interfaith voice of outrage over the actions taken by the U.S. government since the beginning of the Iraq War, RHR-NA and members of K'vod Habriot are committed to bringing about an end to these abuses and to ensure that they never happen again.
