Masekhet Ha'Atzmaut
Masekhet H'Atzmaut: A Talmudic-style Commentary on Israel's Declaration of Independence was created by Rabbis for Human Rights in 2008 in honor of Israel's 60th anniversary. Each of the eight tractates contains excerpts from Israeli founding documents, historical and contemporary commentaries related to the excerpt, and study questions. We invite you to download (see below) these resources for use at your community's Yom H'Atzmaut celebration.
The topics of the eight tractates are: Can Israel Be Jewish and Democratic, Democracy, Equality, Justice, Israeli Arabs, Holy Places, Development, and Homeland. Each is from 3-5 pages in length.
Masekhet H'Atzmaut is also available in Hebrew and comes with a teaching guide. The cost for this curriculum is $40 and can be purchased through our office by emailing us your request at office@rhr-na.org.
