Second Raphael Lemkin Human Rights Awards

The Second Raphael Lemkin Human Rights Awards Evening will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at Adas Israel Congregation, Washington, D.C.  The evening is part of the Second North American Conference on Judaism and Human Rights.

We will be honoring three individuals who have made significant contributions in the area of human rights:

Marian Wright Edelman -  Founder and President of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF), she has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional life.  Under her leadership, CDF has become the nation’s strongest voice for children and families.

Peter Edelman -  Professor at Georgetown University Law, he is not only an accomplished legal scholar and author; he has spent his life fighting poverty.  He is the immediate past President of the New Israel Fund.

Rabbi Gerry Serotta - For decades he has been a national leader in the Jewish community in the area of social justice.  He has founded and worked in numerous human rights organizations including Rabbis for Human Rights - North America.
