INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Organization Summary:
Founded in 2002, Rabbis for Human Rights – North America (RHR-NA) is an organization of rabbis from all streams of Judaism who act on the Jewish imperative to respect and protect the human rights of all people. Grounded in Torah and our Jewish historical experience and guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we advocate for human rights in Israel and North America. We are proud to partner with Rabbis for Human Rights in Israel in our efforts to protect the human rights of Jews, Palestinians, and all others living in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. In our North American work, we are proud to partner with a range of Jewish, interfaith, and secular organizations that share our commitment to human rights.
General Position Summary:
Interns are responsible for supporting RHR-NA's advocacy work related to their Justice in Jerusalem Campaign and Bedouin Rights Campaign. Interns may also support RHR-NA's online communications activities.
Essential Internship Functions:
- Interns will help create and test market new advocacy content for RHR-NA.
- Interns will write other content for RHR-NA's website and blog.
- Interns will edit blog entries from other contributors.
- Interns will edit videos.
- Other duties as assigned.
Reports Directly to:
Director of Israel Programs
Time Commitment:
Eight hours per week minimum. Length of internship and hours are flexible. Spring and summer internships are available.
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship opportunity for college credit (if applicable).
Knowledge and Experience:
- BA/S or equivalent (or working towards a college degree) in communications, religion, Judaism, Middle East Studies, political science, international relations, human rights, journalism, sociology, education or a related field required. Masters or rabbinical students are welcome to apply as well.
- Professional, volunteer or activist experience addressing human rights or social justice issues.
- Familiarity with Judaism and the American Jewish community.
- Previous travel to Israel preferred, but not required.
- Comfort working with Word Press blogs, Twitter and other social media.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional research skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

They will be versatile multi-taskers with the proven abilities to organize and prioritize many urgent tasks, follow procedures, and meet deadlines. They will possess strong commitments to teamwork and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with team members of varied work styles. They will demonstrate creativity and flexibility, as well as proven abilities to learn quickly and be accountable for results. They must be self-directed and capable of working independently. Even temperament and a good sense of humor appreciated. They will also possess an awareness of and sensitivity to multi-cultural international human rights work, and a commitment to fighting injustice. They will be strong communicators who are comfortable interacting with diverse audiences in person and in written form.

Position is based in Rabbis for Human Rights-North America’s Midtown Manhattan office.

Rabbis for Human Rights-North America is in a tremendous moment of growth. In the past year, we have grown our budget 30%, and have brought on a new Executive Director. The Development Intern will gain valuable experience in expanding the budget and capacity of a growing organization.
General Position Summary:
Responsibilities include researching new sources of funding, analyzing donor records, and managing donor records. The intern will have the opportunity to take part in donor meetings and board meetings, to learn skills for donor cultivation, and to gain valuable experience in development in a small non-profit.
Reports Directly to:
The Development Intern will be supervised by the Executive Director, and will also work closely with the Director of Operations.

Qualifications:
- Passion about the mission of Rabbis for Human Rights-North America.
- Interest in a career in development or non-profit management.
- Extremely strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and to work in a fast-paced office.
- Ability and willingness to take leadership, to manage up, and to look for new and creative ways of working.
- Experience in financial management and database management preferred.
- Strong computer skills and a proven ability to learn new technology quickly.
- Excellent written and oral communications abilities.
- Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.
